Seed Station
Royal College of Art
2025
As part of our Live Project module in fifth year, we were asked by an
agro-environmental initiative in Puglia called X-Farm to design and construct a ‘seed station’ to collect and save peasant seeds. X-Farm Agricoltura Prossima is an initiative which was born from the recovery of confiscated land from organised crime. It concerns itself with improving environmental conditions, regenerating the soil and increasing biodiversity, all whilst promoting social and labour market integration. We wanted to design a modular system which could be easily constructed using minimal materials, with the idea that this could be added to with additional elements to aid its use. Each modular piece can be attached in a way to change the shape of the table, to make multiple smaller stations or adapt it to suit each requirement. Here we also showcased that configuring it in a way where it produces circles at each end can enable it to have pots, sieves or buckets placed in the centre for a communal use.
