Spatial Research Residency
LT Ranch, Lithuania
2020 - 2022

‘The LT Ranch is a non-profit rural art space in northeast Lithuania hosting seasonal sessions, providing a facility for residencies of spatial research, experimentation and cultural events related to environment and experience through art, architecture, film and landscape.’

Throughout the three annual sessions, I was guided by the exploration of the sonic environment, focusing on the methods of communication, knowledge-sharing and co-respondances through the medium of birdsong. During 2020, an online version using my garden as the environment, I studied and produced birdsong notations, co-responded with the birds by collecting their discarded cherry pits, took recordings of the sonic environment and footage of the sources of the birdsong. In parallel, similar was produced in Lithuania by a resident. Commencing the 2022 session, on site, I used further explorations to construct a wearable listening instrument to co-respond with the birds, leaving markings along the birdsong-led journey.
